Fun Board Games For Families

I used to dread going to family gatherings until I started bring some of these fun board games for families along with me and forcing my family members to play. While some people are reluctant at first, they typically all end up having a great time by the end of the night. When it is a larger group of players it is often difficult to find games that can keep everyone engaged. Here s a list of a few fun board games that we have discovered over the years.

Best Family Board Games

Catch Phrase

Electronic Catch Phrase Game - Second EditionThis is a family board game GREAT for large groups. Almost the bigger the better. You take turns describing your assigned word to your team and they try to guess it. If the buzzer goes off when you are describing your word the other team gets a point. First team to seven points wins! Very funny game.

Bang

While not as common as Catch Phrase or Cranium, Band provides hours of great family fun while you develop your strategic and sneaky skills. There are 4-8 players with one sheriff, 1-2 deputees, 1 renegade, and 1-4 outlaws. Only the sheriff reveals his identity. By playing a series of cards with different actions on them everyone tries to kill the sheriff and the sheriff tries to stay alive with the help of the deputee(s). The only downside to this one is that if you get killed early on the game can last for quite a while and you just have to sit there.

Cranium

Cranium Board GameCranium has been a favorite board game of mine for a long time. Played with 2-4 pairs of people, you take turns trying to accomplish the challenges on cards such as spelling a word backwords, guessing the word you are scupting or humming, or answering a true/false question. The game is never the same and always entertaining.

Saboteur

At first glance this one sounds confusing but it's really very simple. Playable from 3-10 players you are a dwarf either trying to build a tunnel towards some gold, or prevent the other dwarfs from reaching the gold. It helps to be sneaky with your role to avoid being hindered by roadblocks placed by other players. At the end of three rounds whoever has the most gold wins! This one is a nice simple game that allows for some outside conversation when it's not your turn.

Hopefully at your next big family gathering you will try out some of these fun board games for families and get the same joy out of them that my family and I do!
